These photogenic ruins are all that remains of an Augustinian abbey founded in the 1200s. The rich honey colours of the Wealden sandstone lend them a warmth that belies their dilapidated state.

If the view seems familiar, it may be because the abbey ruins, with considerable CGI additions, feature in a Channel 4 station ident introduced in 2010.
